Comments Calmeria was introduced in 1950 in Fresno California by USDA grape breeders Elmer Snyder and Frank N. Harmon. The variety is an open pollinated seedling of Ohanez (Almeria) and was selected in 1941. The material for this selection was obtained from the DiGiorgio vineyard, location 24 v13, and came to Foundation Plant Services around 1970. After index testing and heat treatment, selection 04 was first planted in the FPS foundation vineyard in 1973. Calmeria 04 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2012 and successfully completed testing to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard in 2013.
