Comments Vinhão is the official Portuguese name for the dark-skinned grape also called Sousão, which is grown under that name in the Galicia region of Spain. The grape is high in acidity and color and is suitable for port-style wines.

Comments This selection was donated to the public grapevine collection at Foundation Plant Services in 2005 by Jorge Böhm, Viveiros Plansel SA, Portugal. The material is Plansel selection 217. After successful completion of disease testing, Vinhão 01 qualified for the California Grapevine Registration & Certification Program and was planted in the Classic Foundation Vineyard in 2007.
