Comments	Excelsior Guilly is a white wine cultivar of unknown parentage from Germany. The Vitis International Variety Catalogue (VIVC) indicates that the grape is the product of an interspecific crossing. Excelsior Guilly was imported to Cornell University in New York in 2002 from the Institute for Grapevine Breeding at Geilweilerhof, Siebeldingen, Germany to evaluate the cultivar for potential value to the wine grape industry in the eastern United States. Drs. Bruce Reisch and Anna Katherine Mansfield managed the research trial at the Geneva, New York, Research Evaluation Quarantine Center (REQ) beginning in 1995. After several years of data, the researchers concluded that Excelsior Guilly produced ‘excellent wine in 2006 and good powdery mildew resistance’. The USDA transferred quarantine processing of this selection to Foundation Plant Services at UC Davis in 2008. The original plant material underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy in 2009. The treated material successfully completed testing in 2013 to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard.
