| Description |
Mottled dark and light purplish red skin. Meaty, greenish yellow clingstone flesh. Rich, sweet flavor; highest quality. Ripens mid-September. Used at the National Fruit Trials in England as a standard of comparison for other plums, although it is mentioned nowhere in European pomological literature. Found in 1870 as a chance seedling near Clairoc, the famous French prune district. Brought to the U.S. in 1883. Once widely grown in California for large prunes. |
